World Environment Day 2021: Reimagine, Recreate and Restore. What can we, humans, do to help?

Today, June 5, is World Environment Day. It was established by the United Nations in 1972 to commemorate the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment, which was held in Stockholm on June 5. It is an important day to rethink the importance of the environment and the current state of our planet.

Theme 2021: Reimagine. Recreate. Restore.

The United Nations has designated the period from 2021 to 2030 as the United Nations Decade for the Restoration of Ecosystems, and this year marks the start of the decade.

Each year on World Environment Day, a theme is announced by UNEP (UN Environment Programme). The theme for 2021 was created by Jordan Sanchez, a physics major at Harvard University, and is called "Reimagine, Recreate, Restore".

It is a powerful message that reminds us that we humans need to stop plundering and protect the earth's resources.

What is the current status of ecosystems?

An ecosystem is the environment in which all living things on earth interact with each other and live. We humans are just one part of the ecosystem.

However, do you know that the ecosystem is being damaged and is becoming more serious?

According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), more than 37,400 species are threatened with extinction, which is equivalent to 27% of all plants and animals. It is also a fact that the number of endangered species and the number of plants and animals that have actually become extinct continues to increase every year. There are also many disasters caused by deforestation, and we are also affected by the destruction of ecosystems.

However, it is we humans who are destroying ecosystems, including air pollution and deforestation. Deforestation, in particular, is a major cause of damage to ecosystems by depriving living things of their habitat, increasing global warming, and causing natural disasters that were once protected by forests.

The water, soil, and natural resources that are essential for our daily lives all benefit from ecosystems. If we continue to move forward without protecting and restoring ecosystems, we will not be able to live as we do now and our survival will be in jeopardy. This is why it is so important to restore ecosystems.

PRMAL's Commitment

Since its inception, PRMAL has consistently used only eco-friendly lab grown diamonds in all of its jewelry.

A lab grown diamond is a diamond that has been created in a lab (laboratory). They have the same structure as natural diamonds, and even professional appraisers cannot identify them.

The ability to create them artificially will not pollute water bodies or devastate soil, which is the process of mining natural diamonds. In consideration of the global environment, PRMAL has fully adopted this method in order to become a truly sustainable jewelry brand.

We also believe that it is important to have a system that allows us to give back as well as to create products that are environmentally friendly. As a member of 1% for the Planet, which donates 1% of its annual sales to environmental protection activities, PRMAL has been committed to donating 1% of its sales to environmental protection activities since its inception, with the approval of a third-party organization.

What each of us can do

There are many things that each of us can do to protect the environment.

  • Use your own bag.
  • Do the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle)
  • Reduce plastic waste.
  • Reduce food loss.
  • etc.

The most important thing is to listen to and learn about the current situation. Knowing the current situation will lead to a significant change in each person's awareness.

One of the most important contributions is to use social networking sites and tell people about it. Let's tag #WorldEnvironmentDay and join the global movement together.
